The Forgotten07 Dec 2016
In a period of such catastrophic human displacement in the Middle East, few people realise that the largest single refugee population in the world remains that of the Palestinians, a people violently ejected from their lands in 1948 to make way for the founding of the state of Israel. The politics of power have since rendered these long-term dispossessed and stateless people a largely forgotten reality.
How can so many hopeless millions, in a region of such strategic importance and current media attention be so politically abandoned and invisible? This short but powerful documentary (25 minutes) provides introductory background to the Palestinian refugee issue, and gives particular focus to the Palestinian refugee camps of Lebanon, where activist/filmmaker Jon Pullman toured and filmed in 2015.
Witnessing and understanding the scale and implacability of this mass, enforced exile brings a new and shocking sense of the longstanding, but growing, urgency of an injustice whose cause, and ultimate resolution, remains unspeakable in the highest corridors of geo-political power.
